New Master Class Announced
Leadership Lessons from the American Civil War
Tuesday March 11, 6 pm
At McKinsey & Co.Level 35, 88 Phillip Street, Sydney
Following the success of the Club’s Master Class “Lance Armstrong – Hero or Villain” last June (overall rating 9.04/10), and much asked for in member surveys we are delighted to offer another session using the celebrated HBS case method.
As many will know, the case method, developed by Harvard decades ago and used widely in management education globally, puts you in the shoes of the principal character in a real situation. Our HCA Master Classes confront challenging issues of leadership, decision-making in a crisis, moral dilemma. The sessions are highly interactive, stimulating and enjoyable.
On March 11 Ted Blamey will again lead us in a vigorous discussion with the fascinating case Leadership Lessons from the American Civil War. It examines how a young Colonel should deal with a crisis he confronts the day before the defining battle of the US Civil War, Gettysburg. (We offered this case session way back in 2018 and there have often been demands for it to be re-staged).
We meet and mingle from 5:30 over refreshments. The session begins at 6:00 sharp and wraps up at 8:00 with a break-out midway accompanied by drinks and canapés. We continue with food and drinks until 9:00.
The Master Class is suitable for all walks, backgrounds and ages but especially for early and mid-career executives and professionals, for any interested in the case method and those facing challenges of leadership.
HCA members and guests are welcome. A modest charge is to cover catering, $55 for members, $65 for guests. McKinsey & Co. is kindly providing their outstanding venue in the CBD.
A brief background note on the Civil War will be sent out to all participants in advance.
