Clive Gard was the administrator of the Harvard Club of Australia for 20 years until his death in 2014. Clive was a graduate of the Western Australia School of Mines and attended a three month Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. Clive was instrumental in the success of the Harvard Club of Australia’s Program for Leaders, and $2 million of surpluses that have endowed the R.G. Menzies scholarship fund and the Harvard Club of Australia Foundation. These two endowment funds support our ability to offer many of the scholarships that we offer.

This scholarship is for a member to attend the annual week long Program for Leaders usually held at the end of July each year.

Scholarship Value
The scholarship has a face value of $10,750 plus GST.

All financial members of the Harvard Club of Australia, who are established in their career are eligible. Winners are typically between 35 and 45 years old.

Funding Source
The funding is provided by HCA Philanthropy P/L by reserving a seat at the Program for Leaders which may not otherwise be sold to the public.

Selection Process
The President of the club selects the winner based on past and prospective contribution to the leadership of the Harvard Club of Australia. The President may offer attractive discounts to unsuccessful applicants if there are any unsold seats for the program.

Applications are called each year in April or May for the Program usually held at the end of July. The call for applications comes via the Club newsletter.

Ongoing Involvement
Winners are expected to make an ongoing contribution to the Harvard Club of Australia by being a Program Leader or becoming a Vice President or President of the club. Unfortunately the scholarship will not be offered in 2020 as the Leadership Program has been cancelled due to COVID 19 restrictions.
