HCA Principals Scholarship to Harvard
The Public Education Foundation’s Harvard Club of Australia Education Scholarship enables three principals of Australian government primary or secondary schools to undertake a short professional program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
HCA Education Scholarship will provide the successful applicants an opportunity to reflect, focus and recharge through a professional education program tailor-made for school Principals.
David Gonski challenged the HCA at its 2012 AGM to help put Principals on a pedestal. HCA then worked with the Public Education Foundation to create scholarships for public school principals in Australia to attend a one week professional development program at Harvard Graduate School of Education. The Public Education Foundation and Teachers Mutual Bank, HCA has supported over 25 public school principals from around Australia to attend a leadership course at Harvard over the past 5 years. HCA Education Scholarships were established by the Public Education Foundation and the HCA in 2013 with funding from the Origin Foundation.
All Australian public school principals are eligible to apply.
The scholarship is valued at A$15,000 which covers travel, accommodation and course fees.
The scholarships are funded by the Public Education Foundation, Teachers Mutual Bank and the HCA Foundation. Typically 3 scholarship are awarded each year.
Applications open in January each year that the course is run. The selectors meet in April and the winners are announced by the PEF in May each year. The course is held in July each year at Harvard University.

The Public Education Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing life-changing scholarships to young people in public education and enhancing the value and reputation of public schools. We recognise that disadvantage is the main factor in student achievement and success. Our targeted scholarship program focuses on specific areas of need: refugee, Indigenous, rural and remote and disability. We also offer scholarships to education leaders in public schools across Australia in recognition of their role in transforming student outcomes and improving education standards.
Teachers Mutual Bank was established in 1966 by teachers, for teachers with a shared vision of giving those alongside them better financial options which they did by forming a credit union. Teachers Mutual Bank is one division of Teachers Mutual Bank Limited, alongside Firefighters Mutual Bank, Health Professionals Bank and UniBank. Collectively, Teachers Mutual Bank Limited has more than 220,000 members and over $8 billion in assets.
The selection process is managed by the Public Education Foundation. Volunteers from HCA serve as selectors. The current lead selector for Harvard Club is Ricky Campbell-Allen, EDM’10 and the RG Menzies scholar of 2009.
