NIDA WELCOMES HCA MEMBERS TO A PRODUCTION OF THE MAGIC FLUTE

Join fellow Harvard Club members on Tuesday, 25th October as the National Institute of Dramatic Art hosts their major supporters for an evening featuring…The Magic Flute,  a co-production of NIDA and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart,  libretto by Emanuel Shikaneder, conducted by Stephen Mould and directed by Clemence Williams. “Mozart’s final opera transports us to a fantastical world of serpents, princesses, trials and mysteries. Good and evil battle, and truth and resolution are elusive.”

The evening begins at 6 pm in NIDA’s reception room with drinks and light finger food hosted by NIDA’s Artistic Director in Residence, David Berthold. The opera’s Director, Clemence Williams will talk to us about her approach to the production.

At 6:50 we proceed to NIDA’s wonderful Parade Theatre for the opera, described below.
HCA members, partners and families are all welcome. We have a limited number of tickets. At just $49 per person, these must be booked by October 11 through the link below.
NIDA is across from the UNSW main campus at 215 Anzac Parade Kensington NSW. There is free parking beside the campus (turn off Anzac Parade at Day Avenue).

"NIDA invites you to experience a world that feels like 1984 meets Alice in Wonderland meets The Wizard of Oz. Tamino, a prince, has lost his way. He journeys down a deep rabbit hole in search of his true love, Pamina, imprisoned in the Temple of The Sun. Together they navigate the trials imposed by the mysterious Sarastro and the trickery of The Queen of the Night and her cronies. A fairy tale for the ages. This production teams Sydney Conservatorium of Music performers with NIDA technical theatre and stage management, costume, props, and scenic construction students to take you on a journey into a dream world where we hope we may find fulfillment.”

We have not been to NIDA for 3 years (last time was Starstruck in 2019) but our previous nights have been popular and rewarding. This time it is not the graduating actors we will
discover but equally talented rising stars of the backstage roles in theatre and onstage of the Opera.

Bookings close on October 11th.
