HCA PRINCIPALS SCHOLARSHIP TO HARVARD

The Public Education Foundation Harvard Club of Australia (HCA) Education Scholarship enables three outstanding principals, from Australian government primary and secondary schools, to undertake a short professional educational program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. The program is specifically designed to strengthen the skills of educational leaders at a strategic point in their career development.

The success of this program provided HCA with the impetus to bring Harvard to Australia, in January 2020 in Sydney, for the first Leadership for School Excellence Program. This inaugural program awarded 56 scholarships to Australian government school leaders, from less advantaged and regional communities around Australia, to participate in the program.

History
David Gonski challenged the HCA at its 2012 AGM to ‘help put principals on a pedestal’. In 2013, with funding from the Origin Foundation, HCA partnered with the Public Education Foundation (PEF) to create scholarships for government school principals in Australia, enabling them to attend a week-long professional development program at Harvard Graduate School of Education. Over the past five years, The Public Education Foundation, Teachers Mutual Bank and HCA has supported 27 public school principals from around Australia to attend the leadership program at Harvard.
